Still famous today because of its association with
Manfred von Richthofen, the Fokker DR.I Triplane
is popularly depicted in one of his all-red schemes.
Though most of his combat flying had been in the earlier
Albatros machines, his death while flying his "blood red"
triplane in April, 1918, sealed its place in popular culture.
The painting shows a triplane from his unit - Jagstaffel 11.
Only the "Red Baron's" airplane was all red, but red was
used in some fashion on most of the squadron's other
airplanes as a unit marking. Painted purely as an excuse
to do a cold, dim scene rather than the usual skyscape.

This original painting was exhibited at the Colony
Theatre, Burbank, California, June-July, 2006.
