The Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk was an attempt to build a fighter
that could be carried aloft in the Navy's large dirigibles of the 1930's.
The idea was to provide the airships with their own protectivc fighter
escort, and extend the scouting range. Shown here is a Sparrowhawk
after dropping from the "mother ship", the U.S.S. Macon, ZRS 5, in 1934.

This painting was commissioned by
Williams Brothers Model Products for the box top of the
recently re-released version of their 1/32 scale Sparrowhawk kit.
